Opera in the Movies

Vancouver Opera (VO) kicks off its 2022-2023 season on Sunday, July 17, 2022. Join us for VO’s inaugural Opera in the Park outdoor concert presenting popular music from the movies! This free event will feature the Vancouver Opera orchestra, chorus and principal singers, conducted by Maestro Jonathan Darlington.

Selections include music from The Godfather, The Simpsons, and Mission Impossible!

This full-day event will have activities for the whole family including an instrument petting zoo, balloon twisters, face-painting, a photo wall, stilt walkers, giveaways and so much more!

Summer Celebration Gala Dinner (Private Gala)

Art Downtown

Art Downtown is a new outdoor summer program where artists are exhibiting and painting live in an outdoor space, with live music brought to you in partnership with Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association (DVBIA).

Now is the time when more than ever artists need our support and new opportunities. Art Downtown is a project that allows artists and the public to connect, inspire each other and share creativity.

Between June and September, artists will be presenting their work and techniques in the beautiful setting located at Lot 19 and Cathedral Square, downtown Vancouver. You can find us every Wednesday at the LOT 19 - 855 W Hastings St, Vancouver (starting June 17th) and every Friday at the Cathedral Square - 566 Richards St, Vancouver (starting June 19th) from 11 AM till 2 PM.

Art Masters

8 Artists, 1 Theme, 1 Hour and 1 Mystery Box of supplies

On Wednesday, July 22nd from 12 pm - 1 pm, we will be presenting another instalment of Art Masters which will coincide with Art Downtown at Lot 19. Art Masters is sponsored by Opus Art Supplies and is an exciting art competition where artists can showcase their creative talents.

Art Masters asks 8 professional artists to create a piece of artwork based on a theme (which will be announced on the day), using one mystery toolbox filled with unconventional painting tools. They will have just one hour to create a piece of art based on this theme, requiring them to unleash their creative skills and imagination within an exciting environment.

Following this, the audience will be asked to vote for their favourite piece based on its creativity and originality, and a winner will be announced. The artworks will then be auctioned off, with proceeds going to the Vancouver Visual Art Foundation. After the competition, there will be live music and artists exhibiting and selling their artwork until 2 pm.

We hope you can join us and support local artists. This event is free, open to the public & safely distanced.

This is the 4th year featuring the Park’s Edge Paint Off: Live International Painting Tournament. Many people have never seen how paintings are created and it is an exciting spectacle to get a glimpse of what the creative process looks like first hand. Audience voting determine the winners of the events, and silent auction for the real prize of those who will get to walk home with a one-of-a-kind piece of art. Burnaby Tourism, the local destination marketing organization and official ambassador of Burnaby have donated the prize money for the people’s choice 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners of the Park’s Edge Paint Off!

This year Ten Squared is raising funds to record workshops and development classes into videos that members of the Federation of Canadian Artists can view from anywhere in the country. This exhibition takes one step closer to providing education programming to all members.

Vancouver has seen a plethora of new live painting events pop up in recent years. This is the 3rd year featuring Park’s Edge Paint Off: Live International Painting Tournament. Many people have never seen how paintings are created and it is an exciting spectacle to get a glimpse of what the creative process looks like first hand.

There will also be a silent auction of the Paint Off artworks. The artists gets 50 per cent of the proceeds, with the other 50 per cent going to the council, which puts on the free event.

The featured artists taking part in the paint off include Yukiko Adachi, Flavia Chan, Alyx Essers, Cas Fernandez, Brianna Nilsson, Juan Pablo Vargo and more.

Ten Squared is an annual fundraising exhibition for the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA). The funds raised supports the FCA in continuing to provide and improve upon their programming and services.

DiverCity is an exhibition that is held at the Deer Lake Art Gallery featuring the works of the artists participating in the 2nd Annual Park’s Edge Paint Off. DiverCity is hosted and organized by the Burnaby Arts Council. “DiverCity” is an exhibition celebrating ethnicity, gender, age, place of origin, disability, sexual orientation, education and religion. What is your interpretation of a diverse community, culture or society?

For almost 40 years the Burnaby Arts Council has presented the best in local performers and artists set against the beautiful Deer Lake Park. The Summer Arts Festival will have a great addition this year with its own brand of live painting as it hosts 2nd Park’s Edge Paint Off!

A public art exhibit celebrating the creativity and resilience of those affected by a brain tumour diagnosis.

Everyday 27 Canadians are diagnosed with a brain tumour. To mark Brain Tumour Awareness Month in May, and to showcase the remarkable creativity of the brain tumour community, the Patient & Family Advisory Council (PFAC) of the BC Cancer Agency (BCCA), in partnership with Visual Space Gallery in Vancouver, will be hosting an art show in May.

Don't miss an amazing night of live competitive painting downtown Vancouver! This is a wonderful evening of creativity and community, showcasing local artists and connecting Vancouver to towns and cities around the world!

Art Battle® is live competitive painting. Painters create the best work they can in 20 minutes. As they work, patrons move around the easels, closely watching the creative process. At the end of the round, the audience votes democratically for their favourite painting and bids in silent auction to take the work home. Art Battle happens in 50 cities worldwide.

The Anonymous Art Show is a popular fundraising event hosted each year in November and December. This event is fun for artists and purchasers, and it assists the North Vancouver Community Arts Council in funding many valuable programmes, including free community events, art classes and youth programmes.

Park’s Edge Paint Off is an International Live Painting Tournament outdoor event. Artists will choose their own theme and be given a 24" x 36" canvas, with two hours to create something spectacular. Whoever gets the most votes from the crowd wins first prize!

Carnaval del Sol by Latincouver, the biggest Latin festival in the Pacific Northwest, recreates the atmosphere of a vibrant city plaza in Latin America. The arts showcased during this event include live musical bands, live painting, Native Canadian and Latin American visual art, traditional folk dances from different countries, arts and crafts displays, dancing and culinary lessons, and a Latin American inspired fashion show.

Art Battle® is live competitive painting. 12 painters create the best work they can using only acrylic paint across three 20 minute rounds of public painting. 6 painters will compete in Round 1, another 6 in Round 2, the top two painters from each round will go into a 3rd and Final Round with a new canvas. The audience vote for the winners of each round, and the single winner of each event.

Works created at Art Battle 321 will be silent auctioned with 50% of the proceeds going to the artists. The winner determined by audience vote will win a spot in the 2016 City Finals to be held Summer 2016.

The West End Community Centre Association presents Art in the City, exhibiting the work of a diverse range of artists from Vancouver, the lower mainland, and other parts of BC. The show will feature a broad selection of disciplines including photographic works, watercolours, sculptures, ceramics, acrylics and other media.
